Boiler Installation in EssexFitted Cleanly, Priced Up FrontAnd Warranted for Up to 10 Years
A new boiler should end the cold mornings, the topping-up and the repair bills — not start a fortnight of mess and moving goalposts. FHP Heating surveys the property properly, quotes one fixed price before any work begins, and installs to a standard that holds the manufacturer warranty for its full 5, 7 or 10 years.

A new boiler, specified for your property rather than a price list
Boiler installation is the replacement or first-time fitting of the appliance that produces your heating and hot water, along with the gas supply, flue, condensate, controls and system protection that make it safe, efficient and warrantable. FHP Heating carries out combi, system and conventional installations for homes and commercial premises across Essex.
What the work actually involves
Removing the old appliance, correcting or upgrading the gas supply pipework where the new boiler demands it, fitting the flue to manufacturer clearances, running a safe condensate route, installing a system filter and controls, chemically cleansing and inhibiting the system, then commissioning the boiler and registering the warranty. It is a full day or several days of work, not an appliance swap.
Who it is for
Homeowners with a boiler that keeps failing or is past economic repair, landlords who need reliability rather than repeat call-outs, people converting from a cylinder system to a combi, and commercial premises where downtime costs money. Also anyone extending or reconfiguring a property where the current appliance can no longer carry the load.
When it is needed
When repairs are becoming routine, when parts for the appliance are obsolete, when the boiler cannot hold pressure or heat the whole house, when a rented property needs an appliance that will not fail mid-tenancy, or when you are already having a bathroom or kitchen done and the disruption is cheaper to absorb now than later.
Why a Gas Safe engineer matters here
Gas work is notifiable and legally restricted to Gas Safe registered engineers. Beyond the law, the warranty is only valid if the install is compliant and commissioned correctly, and the majority of early boiler failures trace back to installation shortcuts: undersized gas pipework, a dirty system carried over, no filter, or a flue that fails clearance. FHP Heating is registered under 6075146 and also holds G3 unvented cylinder and Water Regulations qualifications for cylinder and mains-fed work.
Nursing a dying boiler through one more winter is the expensive option
Most people replace a boiler in January, in a cold house, at the worst possible moment, having spent the previous two years paying for repairs that never quite fixed it. Every month of delay adds cost somewhere — in parts, in wasted gas, or in the damage a failing system does to the rest of the pipework.
Repair spend with nothing to show
Diverter valves, PCBs, fans and pumps on an old appliance are not cheap, and each one buys a few more months. That money is gone the day the boiler is finally condemned or replaced — it does not come off the price of the new one.
Losing hot water without warning
Old boilers rarely fail politely. They fail on the coldest weekend of the year, with children in the house, when every engineer in Essex is already booked. Planned replacement lets you choose the date; emergency replacement chooses it for you.
Damage spreading through the system
A boiler that keeps losing pressure is usually telling you something — a leak, a failed expansion vessel, or corrosion debris circulating. Left running, that debris blocks heat exchangers and radiator valves, so the fault list grows well beyond the appliance itself.
Safety risk from an unmaintained appliance
Poor combustion, blocked flues and cracked heat exchangers are the routes to carbon monoxide. Any appliance showing sooting, staining, an unstable flame or repeated lockouts needs a Gas Safe engineer looking at it now, not next season.
Warranty invalidated on day one
Manufacturers only honour long warranties where the install meets their specification and is registered. A cheap fit with no system cleanse, no filter and no commissioning paperwork can leave you with a new boiler and no cover at all.
Running a house on efficiency you are paying for
An ageing, sludged, badly controlled system burns gas heating water that never reaches the rooms you are sitting in. Replacement is the point at which controls, system cleanliness and correct sizing get sorted together.
Mistakes that make the bill bigger
- Buying on appliance price alone and ignoring what the installation actually includes — gas upgrade, filter, cleanse, controls and flue work.
- Fitting a new boiler onto an old, sludged system with no chemical cleanse or magnetic filter, which is the fastest way to block a new heat exchanger.
- Choosing a combi for a house with two bathrooms and high simultaneous demand, then living with hot water that thins out whenever two taps run.
- Accepting a verbal ballpark instead of a written fixed price, then discovering the flue, condensate or gas run was 'extra'.
- Not registering the manufacturer warranty, or skipping the annual service that keeps it valid.
- Letting unregistered labour touch gas work because it was cheaper on the day.
Five stages from survey to registered warranty
The sequence exists so nothing gets discovered halfway through with your heating in pieces. Every stage is agreed with you before the next one starts.
-
STEP 01
Survey and inspection
We look at the property, not a photo: current appliance and flue position, gas meter and pipe size, radiator count, hot water demand, pressure and flow rate, and where the condensate can safely terminate.
-
STEP 02
Specification and fixed price
You get a written recommendation — combi, system or conventional, output sized to the property — with the manufacturer warranty length stated and one fixed price agreed before any work starts.
-
STEP 03
Installation
Old appliance removed, gas supply upgraded if needed, new boiler, flue, condensate, filter and controls fitted. Dust sheets down, work area protected, and the site left tidy each evening on multi-day jobs.
-
STEP 04
Cleanse, commission and test
The system is chemically cleansed and dosed with inhibitor, gas rate and working pressure are checked, combustion is analysed, and controls and every radiator are proved to be heating as they should.
-
STEP 05
Handover and guarantee
Warranty registered with the manufacturer, a detailed job report issued, controls demonstrated, and the whole installation backed by our 12-month workmanship guarantee alongside the 5, 7 or 10-year appliance warranty.
What a properly specified installation buys you
The value of an install is not visible on the day it finishes — it shows up in the years afterwards, in what does not go wrong.
Hot water that holds up
Output and hot water demand are sized to your actual bathrooms and usage, so the shower does not drop away when the kitchen tap runs.
Warranty that stays valid
Compliant installation, system cleanse, filter and registered commissioning are exactly what a manufacturer asks for when you make a claim in year six.
One fixed price
The number agreed after the survey is the number on the invoice. Scope changes are discussed and agreed before anything is done, never applied afterwards.
Gas Safe compliance in writing
Work carried out under Gas Safe registration 6075146, with the paperwork you need for building control notification, letting agents or a future sale.
Lower running cost from a clean system
A cleansed, inhibited, correctly controlled system moves heat into rooms instead of pushing it through sludge and mis-set controls.
One company for the whole system
Radiators, cylinders, controls, air conditioning and future servicing all handled by the same engineers who fitted the boiler, so nothing gets passed between trades.

Boiler types, materials and the variations we install
Boiler installation is not one job. What is right for a two-bed terrace in Corringham is wrong for a five-bed house in Brentwood with two ensuites, and wrong again for a commercial unit running long hours.
Combi, system and conventional boilers
A combi boiler heats water on demand and needs no cylinder or tanks, which frees up the airing cupboard and loft. It suits properties with one bathroom and mains water flow strong enough to feed it, and it is the most common replacement we fit across Essex.
A system boiler works with a sealed unvented or vented cylinder and suits homes with two or more bathrooms, where several outlets may run at once. Unvented cylinder work is G3 notifiable, and FHP Heating holds the G3 qualification alongside Water Regulations certification.
A conventional (heat-only) boiler retains a feed and expansion tank and a vented cylinder. It stays the right answer in some older properties, in houses with poor mains pressure, and where the existing pipework and controls do not justify a full conversion.
- Combi swap in the same position
- Combi conversion from a cylinder system
- System boiler with unvented cylinder (G3)
- Conventional boiler replacement
- Boiler relocation to a different room
- Back boiler removal and replacement
What gets fitted alongside the appliance
The parts list around the boiler is what separates a ten-year install from a three-year one. Gas supply pipework is checked and upgraded where the new appliance demands greater flow, because an undersized run causes low gas rate, lockouts and premature component failure.
A magnetic system filter is fitted as standard practice on installations to catch the iron oxide that circulates in every heating system, and the system is dosed with corrosion inhibitor after cleansing. Flue routes are set to manufacturer clearances from windows, doors and boundaries, and the condensate is run to a safe termination with correct fall and, where it runs externally, protection against freezing.
- Gas supply upgrade and gas rate testing
- Magnetic filter and corrosion inhibitor
- Flue kits, extensions and plume management
- Condensate routing and frost protection
- Programmers, room thermostats and TRVs
- System pressurisation and expansion vessels
Domestic and commercial installations
Domestic installs are usually one appliance, one day to three days, sequenced around the household so there is hot water again by the end. Access, parking and the tidiness of the finished pipework matter as much as the technical work.
Commercial installations bring different constraints: interruption to trading, plant room access, ventilation, larger gas loads and often the need to work outside business hours. FHP Heating carries £2 million public liability insurance and covers commercial as well as domestic customers across Essex.
Situations that change the specification
A loft conversion or extension adds radiators and heat loss, so the output that suited the house five years ago may no longer cover it. Poor mains flow rules out some combis regardless of the size of the property. A property with an existing unvented cylinder in good order is often better served by a system boiler than a combi conversion.
Where a system has been running dirty for years, power flushing before the new boiler goes on is the difference between a clean install and a warranty argument later. Where a landlord needs the property back in service quickly, we sequence the install and the Landlord Gas Safety Certificate together.

How much does a new boiler installation cost in Essex?
There is no single figure, because the price depends on the appliance, whether the gas supply needs upgrading, flue and condensate routes, and whether you are staying with the same boiler type. FHP Heating surveys the property, then gives one written fixed price before any work starts, so the number you agree is the number you pay. Prices can vary by location.
How long does it take to fit a new boiler?
A straight swap in the same position is usually a day. A combi conversion from a cylinder system, a relocation, or a back boiler removal typically runs to two or three days. The survey tells you which of those your property is, and we confirm the timescale in writing with the price.
Will I be without heating and hot water?
Only while the work is underway. Jobs are sequenced so the system is back in service by the end of the day wherever possible, and on multi-day installs we tell you in advance which days will be affected.
What warranty comes with a new boiler?
New boilers carry a manufacturer warranty of 5, 7 or 10 years depending on the boiler installed, which we register on completion. On top of that, every job FHP Heating completes carries our own 12-month workmanship guarantee.
How long should a new boiler last?
A correctly sized boiler on a clean, inhibited system that is serviced every year should give you well over a decade of service. The two things that shorten that most are a dirty system and skipped annual servicing — both avoidable.
Do I need to have the system power flushed before a new boiler?
Not always, but on an older system with cold spots, black water or years of no inhibitor, yes. Fitting a new heat exchanger to a sludged system is how new boilers fail early, and manufacturers can decline warranty claims where the system was not cleansed. We tell you at survey which your system needs.
Can you install a boiler in a different room?
Yes. Relocations to a kitchen, utility, garage or loft are common, and often done at the same time as a kitchen refit. It adds gas, flue, condensate and pipework runs, all of which are priced into the fixed quote up front.
Do you install boilers for landlords and commercial premises?
Yes. We fit boilers in rented properties and issue the Landlord Gas Safety Certificate (CP12) alongside, and we carry out commercial installations with £2 million public liability cover.
Which areas of Essex do you install boilers in?
FHP Heating is based in Corringham and installs across Brentwood, Billericay, Chelmsford, Rayleigh, Benfleet, Leigh-on-Sea, Hadleigh, Basildon and the surrounding towns.
